Whether it is a primary residence, secondary, or as in this case, a third home built in Naples,FL. Here, decorative ornamentation provided visual volume to prevent matching chests (opposite not shown) and mirrors from being swallowed by the height of the Entry.

When designing an Entry Decoration, scale is of paramount importance.  Where the designer for the previous entry wanted the work to accent pre-existing elements, the designer for this Highland Beach residence requested a stunning trompe l'oeil to dominate the 30 ft. entry space, acting as a counterpoint to the staircase (not shown).

For this soaring space, rich in Gothic detail and proportion, decorative Greenmen brought whimsy and interest.

A funny little English squirrel near the bottom of this panel makes reference to the Arts and Crafts movement, most particularly Walter Crane.

This particular commission came with an unexpected request. I was to portray the Seven Sacraments of the Catholic faith.

I chose a Neo-Renaissance design with traditional one point perspective and floral allegories to represent the Sacraments.

Beach-front opulence is striking when done tastefully. The owners of this Palm Beach home desired a subtle design that reflected the owner's love of the sea. The two figures painted above the window (bottom of photograph) are traditional, stylized dolphins . The side panel of the barrel vaulted ceiling sports similarly stylized, twin seahorse tails (below).

The homeowner who commissioned this work collected orchids, which have been incorporated into the design imagery. (entry, private residence, Pittsburgh, PA). While this Pittsburgh client holds a great fondness for figurative decoration, some prefer landscape scenes as in the case of this Boca Raton townhome (select next image above).

As each of the different applications on this page demonstrates, any size entry, from a townhome (above, Boca Raton, FL) to a  large beachfront estate, can become more engaging and visually compelling through professionally painted decorative ornamentation.
